Although written in 1967, Denny Zeitlin still espouses the dynamics of how he makes music today in much the same fashion.
The unimpeded, subconscious flow, the constant experimentation in producing the sound of the music, the emphasis on spontaneity and collectivism - these are the drivers in Denny music, then and now.
Ever the searcher and the risk taker, not satisfied to rest on his laurels, constantly testing his skills and talents in new musical environments - Denny is the perfect embodiment of the artistic bravery necessary to be a Jazz musician.
And like the late pianist Bill Evans, Denny is very adept at analyzing the music of others and taking distinctive and appealing elements and recombining them to make them his own. So instead of directly copying the influence, it becomes indirectly incorporated into Denny’s style.
