thanks for this, Steve. I recall seeing Stan Getz, Gary Burton, Steve Swallow and Roy Haynes in 1966, outdoors in the Old Orchard shopping center. Solid jazz, to my very young ears.
There was an earlier version of this group with Larry Bunker on drums. That group toured Japan in the summer of 1965 and stayed together through the end of that year when Haynes replaced Bunker. Larry and Gary had formed their own quartet and gigged around Hollywood before joining Stan. After an earlier stint with Bill Evans and then the tour with Getz, Bunker decided to stay in L.A. and continue to work primarily in the studios.
Thanks Howard, but what I was meaning was actually city (I live in North Carolina) … but at that moment I had not yet seen San Fran at the very bottom of the orig msg when I posed the question - sorry - so cool that you saw them! & the Ellington orch too. 50s/60s jazz completely dominates my time & interest since that’s what I play in my combo.
I missed it, too, initially Tom. Getz without a piano in his quartet was a real rarity throughout his career. The vibes accompaniment makes Stan's light and airy tone sound almost ethereal at times.

Location of that venue?
North side of the shopping center, they set up a stage in the parking lot. I heard the Ellington orchestra there, too.

Skokie, suburb of Chicago.
Thanks for clarification!
Have a fun weekend
I had been unaware of "Nobody Else But Me." It's fantastic. Thanks for the deep dive!
